The Wanderer

Postby Justice Grantly on Sun Mar 14, 2010 3:02 am

A small, unassuming book lays in a small, unassuming drawer. The pages start at the day Justice graduated from high school. Pencil illustrations of places and people adorn the pages. When you decide to read the cursive handwriting, it reveals the life story of an Arkkan from his Young Adult years to his emergence as an adult.

Well the day has come. I just graduated and my present is a small frigate and this datapad. I'm so excited I can hardly write legibly. Tomorrow, I plan to be in space with Kelsey and Asher, my two most best friends, and en route to the Human colony of Juno.

Well I am on my ship, which I named Paramour since it must obviously love Kelsey more than me (it has a whole slew of problems when I pilot, go figure). I'm currently on my way to the Human colony of Juno, a beautiful planet with one continent, all covered with mountains like the Himalayas of Earth. I think I should be landing in Juna City tommorrow if the FTL Drive doesn't fail again.

The planet of Juno is greater than I image and Juna City is so ingenious. I wonder why Ark hasn't thought of using it on their mountains. The City is built into the mountains, with the occasional building being able to utilize large skylights to have natural light in their house or shop. Asher said it's just a waste of Arkkan credits, but the last time he said that was about the solar panels on Ilith, which is obviously not a waste since it provides Ark with massive amounts of energy. I also have met this girl at the Cantina.

Well, we have to leave Juno because there was an electrical problem in Juna City so they're evacuating people to the coast or advising off-worlders to leave the planet. It was fun while it lasted. We're now on our way to the Preleminian Trade Cluster, I hear it's cities are megalopolises and it has wonderful landmarks bigger than anything on Anor. I doubt these stories are true but it has great stuff and I have some money to burn from a few odd-jobs Kelsey and Asher got me into. (Jobs i'd rather not dicuss in an unlocked datapad).

Well we've been to the Preleminian Trade Cluster and back. It was rather eventful...between me almost falling into 18 mile deep Sora Canyon or almost blowing up a starship mechanic with a canister of anti-matter. We did buy some nice things, like a new V.I. for The Paramour so we don't have to manually steer and we bought a long range communications receiver so we can use the radio, television, and the extranet. I'll write in you when I've reached Orga III.

Orga III is extremely beautiful, teeming with alien livestock that grazes on endless plains that are owned mostly by independent farmers. This is a very rare sight, as corporations control most farmers. We decided to stay in the Astral Playground Hotel is Sojourner City, one of the few cities on the planet that has a functional spaceport. The hotel is very nice, a large building decorated with objects associated with the Native Americans back on Earth. In the central courtyard of the building, a large fire pit is often surrounded by traders, miners, tourists, or the hotel's staff. I was there yesterday and a miner said something about ruins of an old alien race; the Aphyrians. It appears the Aphyrians were a hive-minded race that engineered an empire that enveloped the entire Galaxy. The miner hangs around the bar, so I'll be sure to learn more about the ruins.

I asked the miner what he knew about the Aphyrians and he gave me a small, Vissian document that was recovered from the Vissian Grand Archive that collapsed during a snow storm. I attached the page's contents:

"The Aphyrians existed before the Vissian came out of the tunnels, before the Arkkan had conceived the idea of planets, before the Humans knew of their humanity. They existed before any of today's known civilizations. They started in Aphyros, a very hot planets covered in volcanoes, teetering on the brink of inhabitation. The Aphyrians built large spheres in the planet, half being above ground and half being below. They communicated through faint clicks, which they recorded through a very complex dot system, only 2% deciphered...(illegible text until last paragraph)...Aphyrians built large structures on thousands of planets in the galaxy, unable to be used due to the lack of translations. Ruins of Vinidurgu hint towards a large structure know as The Language Cipher. If this structure exists, it could provide capable civilizations with technology that allowed the Aphyrians to effortlessly conquer every planet in the Galaxy."

The miner wrote directions to Orga III's Aphyrian ruins on the page and Kelsey, Asher, and I all plan on visiting it tonight.
