An Eventful night
It had started out lovely, Vel had made her way out of the little hidey hole that she called home and headed to the Cantina. the night was actually nice tonight, stars glittered in the velvet expanse like tiny jewels, the sight of beauty in this drab monochrome place caused her to stop and look up. Vel mused for a time letting her mind shift to simpler moments, like the night before when Julius had spoke to her so sweetly. The voices had not turned on him, her visions were clear when it concerned him, maybe just maybe she was going to be allowed a companion now.
He had been almost innocent, if she had not known the life he lead and the job he had, she would consider him nothing more than a sweet boy that wanted to court his honey. She smiled at this point, arms wrapping around herself she could feel the kiss of the sea air on her skin and all seemed so right until the voices broke in violently.
" Get your head out of the clouds girl! There's trouble at the Cantina and you're already late for it!" She moved slowly as if waking from a dream and had taken her steps in the direction of the place she spent most of her down time at. " Will you move it already! Someone may die and if they do, it will be all your fault. Some days you are so worthless!"
Vel had stopped as if she was slapped, her eyes narrowing as she muttered to herself. " I am not worthless" despite her anger at the words she moved forward at a faster pace coming into the Cantina only to be waylaid by Korben, accidentally she was sure of it, but still he nearly stumbled over her. Her eyes quickly scanned over the crowd and the tension nearly overwhelmed her mind. She had to stop it, but how would she do it without letting the world know she was a freak.
Korben asked her if she wanted a drink, she accepted, they sat and she drank, it was all normal save for the argument of the Lizard Hybrid she had met the night before; Flux she believed was his name, he was doing everything he could to anger the woman behind the bar. It was at one point in the conversation that she even turned away from Korben and tried to speak some sense into Flux, but he did not listen.
Vel had bit back a scream as she watched the events unfold, the woman came over the bar like a bolt of lightening and began pummeling Flux without mercy, and Flux... Flux had not fought back, he didn't even try to defend himself. People were screaming for the CSF and Medics, she had been the only Medic on duty at the time as such that fell to her, but she was riveted to the spot she stood unable to move.
Finally she saw her moment when the Merc from the other night and another stranger stepped forward to pull the woman off of Flux, Vel acted quickly pulling the lizard back away and using her first response gear on him that she always carried. Korben was kind enough to help hold him down and try and steady him until she could get the lizard stable. She managed to get his bio-mechanical heart to stabilize just as Korban was telling her his medical abilities telling her that the Lizard's cybernetic spine was shutting down. 'Great' she thought to herself, while she could repair the bio mechanical heart, the spine was going to prove a problem. Korban however had no worries and he calmed her nerves about the cyberwear by saying he would help her all he could.
They had to fight with Flux for what seemed like forever until his spine finally shut down, finally they had their opportunity to get him to the hospital. She had whispered her own words to his protests. When he said to let him die she growled and shook her head. She had told him he was not dying that night, she could not let it happen. Hiding the tears in her eyes as she thought back to the words the voices had said about her. " I can't let you."
Snapping awake on the thin mat she used for a bed she slowly rubbed her eyes, the memories of the dream about the night before was aching in her heart.Korben had managed to repair his spine and before she had fallen asleep from exhaustion, she was certain he had repaired the Lizards heart as well. but how did she get back here to her hole?
She sighed forlornly, she would have to track down Julius today and let him know about the fight and what happened, the woman had been provoked and something had been wrong with Flux to cause him to do so. Then she would have to find the lizard and find out what the hell was wrong with him. Easing herself out of the bed she quickly dressed and got ready for another day of trying to find work and food. a soft prayer falling form her lips as she did.
" Please make today better than yesterday, and tomorrow even better still. " She ignored the voices as they laughed in her head, moving to start her day.
